We started working with the Mierisch family in 2024, but their roots in Nicaragua reach back more than a century. El Limoncillo, named for the small lemons that grow on the farm, was purchased in 1930 and is the second-oldest estate in the Fincas Mierisch group.
The farm sits in Yasica Sur, Matagalpa, where the family began planting Java in the early 2000s as it shifted its focus from volume to quality. They call this Nicaraguan-grown Java Javanica. Fifty-four hectares of protected rainforest are maintained alongside the coffee plantings, and Javanica has become a signature variety for the farm, appearing in Cup of Excellence competition lots over the years. The family's shift from conventional production brought careful attention to varieties and separated lots.
This is a traditional natural lot, dried in the cherry to bring a deeper fruit character to Javanica's elegant structure. It is wild and expressive, with raspberry, plum, & winey notes.
